Care for GatorStep Decking

As the spring boating season approaches, it's important to prepare your GatorStep decking. Fortunately, GatorStep is resistant to most stains and oil, and requires very little maintenance. To ensure that your decking is in top condition and ready for the season, here are some steps you can take to prepare it.

Clean It Up: The first step in preparing your GatorStep decking for the season is to give it a thorough cleaning. Use a mild soap and water solution (we recommend 1 Tbsp. Dawn dish soap per gallon of water for a sufficient cleaning mixture) and a soft-bristled brush to scrub away any dirt, grime, or debris that may have accumulated over the winter. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or brushes that could damage the surface of the material.

Step It Up: Keep your decking clean and dry. When cleaning, always go with the grain direction and use a light-bristle brush. Typically for cockpit and gunwales, move the brush bow to stern and for swim steps and helm pads, move port to starboard.

Inspect And Check: While you are cleaning the decking, take the time to see what other surfaces you might cover. If you don’t have our full kit, consider adding skid-resistant applications such as swim steps, helm pads, gunwales, trailer fenders, cooler kits, dash pads, fish rulers, and vertical surface areas.

Up Your Game: GatorStep EVA foam is anti-microbial by nature, but if you find any areas affected by mold or mildew, consider using Hula RAD Marine Clean All & Protect 5 by Hula Boat Care. The Reconditioning Product is a great way to maintain and refresh your decking for many seasons to come.
